Hello,
I was trying out the new Attach Custom Skeleton feature, which works great! 😀
I was then trying the 'reverse' version of it -Attach RRM3 Rig to Custom Skeleton- where you can take an existing anim (perhaps exported from Unreal) and get it working on your Rapid Rig. I was able to get this working, so the bone animation was driving the RRM3 controls.
My question is- how do I then get back control of my Rig, so I can use the RRM3 controls to tweak/ edit the animation? (I tried running Attach Custom Skeleton to RRM3 Rig on it, but the rig exploded dramatically.) The goal basically is to take existing anims (not made w/ Rapid Rig), and get them on Rapid Rig so we can make edits to them.
Any tips would be appreciated!
You can select all the controls, then in Maya's Edit menu, go to Keys > Bake Simulation. In there, you can adjust the settings for the amount of frames, what channels, etc. that you want to bake. Once complete, you should now be able to edit the baked keyframes as necessary.
Ok I may have answered my own question.
What I ended up doing to solve this was using another tool called Studio Library.
After getting the animation to drive me RRM3 controls, I selected them all and did Bake Simulation to get the animation keys on them. Then I could save the animation to Studio Library and then use Studio Library to apply it back to the rig in my original Maya file (where the controls where driving the bones).
It's a few steps, but it seems to work!
